The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a Quality Systems and Continuous Improvement Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Driving existing product quality enhancement through use of continuous improvement methods and tools, such as: Six Sigma, Product and Process Understanding (PPU), Design of Experiments (DOE), Customer Quality Index (CQI) and Quality at the Source
  • Serve as primary plant continuous improvement subject matter expert and be involved in the design and sustainment of plant systems
  • Supporting and interacting with customers and suppliers through complaint investigations, resolution, and trending
  • Ensuring the commercialized product design intent and product integrity is retained as materials, processes, methods, and specifications change
  • Troubleshooting, investigating, and analyzing for non-conforming product testing and disposition
  • Providing Quality Engineering support for global product launches and change management projects
  • Establishing and cultivating a network of support (EHS, laboratory, quality, plant engineering, business supply chain, engineering, etc..) to facilitate completion of assignments and performance of assigned areas.
  • Enhance plant PPU in cellulose manufacturing to improve and sustain production of high-quality products
  • Managing documentation systems to include work instructions, process standards, technical documents, test methods etc.
  • Serve as a coach/mentor for technical resources and be willing to be on call to support 24/7 manufacturing operations

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Three (3) years of professional experience as a process/manufacturing/lean engineer, or quality engineer in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience in a chemical, textile, paper or similar manufacturing environment
  • Ability to understand and interpret analytical chemical test results
  • Experience with statistical analysis of process data and establishing process/product control standards
  • Familiarity with change management processes
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and strong influencing skills for working in dynamic plant environment
  • Professional certification, such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) through American Society for Quality (ASQ)
  • Experience working with established quality standards, such as ISO 9001
  • Experience leading or actively participating in Quality Audits
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, tier systems and/or layered process audits
  • Experience leading kaizen activity

The expected compensation range for this position is $122,292 - $149,468, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
