Raw Material Sourcing Engineer
The Supply Chain Specialist Sourcing Engineer supports category management and strategic sourcing initiatives across direct materials with a focus on Earth-Derived Materials (Ceramics). This position is responsible for facilitating the sourcing process to reduce costs and mitigate risks & is designed as a feeder into a Category Manager & Supply Chain Manager role.
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically adept Supply Chain Specialist to support the strategic sourcing and category management of earth-derived and engineered materials such as boron carbide (B4C), silicon carbide (SiC), alumina, and other specialty ceramics and minerals. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a background in chemical engineering, materials science, or mechanical engineering who is looking to pivot into a career in supply chain management, with a focus on supplier strategy, risk mitigation, and value optimization. This is not a tactical buyer position. Rather, this role focuses on engineering-informed procurement, cross-functional collaboration, and long-term supplier management to support high-performance manufacturing within defense/aerospace/semi-conductor/medical markets.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform critical activities in the sourcing process, including supplier identification & evaluation, developing & managing requests for quote/proposal, initial negotiations, and contract development.
- Maintain technical knowledge of various raw materials (Alumina, B4C, SiC, SiN, Yttria, Zirconia & AIN) and understand their associated uses and specific market dynamics.
- Partner with Engineering, R&D, and Manufacturing to understand technical requirements and define sourcing strategies for raw and advanced materials.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to build the business case for various sourcing projects and communicate the benefits in a compelling manner.
- Manage the execution of sourcing projects, to include monitoring timelines, onboarding suppliers, and capacity & inventory planning (ramp up/down).
- Evaluate supply chain risks through proactive monitoring of commodity markets, geopolitical events, and regulatory developments, and prepare detailed reports and assessments to support risk mitigation strategies.
- Analyze various internal and external data sources to identify opportunities for cost reduction and supply chain optimization.
- Support the purchasing operations team in mitigating/negotiating price increases via market data and/or alternative sourcing.
- Support category management by conducting supplier relationship management and performance monitoring activities for non-critical suppliers.
- Support regulatory, compliance, customer related activities, and requests in their area of expertise, to include conflict minerals, country of origin, supplier code of conduct, geopolitical risk assessments, supplier diversity reporting, purchase order flow down requirements, etc.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, material science, mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of sourcing or procurement experience this can include internship or co-op experience in supply chain, category management or manufacturing.
Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on cost reduction and process improvement.
- Ability to work independently and lead complex sourcing projects.
- Strong communication skills to effectively communicate at all organizational levels and with outside suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple organizational priorities at the same time.

Target Hiring Range
Annual Salary: USD 80,532.00 - USD 106,303.00
