Position Summary
Roosevelt University seeks a Relief Operating Engineer to be held responsible for operating, and maintaining in good running order all machinery and equipment as assigned per the Engineer's duties.
This position is located on the Chicago campus and reports to the Chief Engineer. Occasional travel to the Schaumburg campus will be required.
The salary for this position is $49.70/hour.
This is a union position and will require union membership; health and wellness benefits are provided by the union.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
At least 5 years previous experience as an operating engineer.
Demonstrated ability to read and work off blue prints and schematics.
Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills required.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and detailed equipment maintenance and safety records.
Previous experience with PC based building automation systems (i.e. Johnson Controls Metasys, Seimens Apogee, and Control Engineering Ensemble).
The qualified candidate must be a current member, in good standing with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399.

Current City of Chicago License for Stationary Engineer.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications
Earned Associates Degree is a plus.
Previous experience working with an automated work order system.
Equipment Operated
Office equipment (desktop computer, laptop, office printer/ multi-function device and phone). Occasional use of the telephone and Nextel portable direct connect phone will be required.
Working Conditions
This position requires the physical ability to perform heavy lifting, opening and closing of large valves under steam or water pressure, and the ability to work from ladders and scaffold under approved OSHA guidelines.

Duty and Responsibility
Maintains and monitors condition and ensures functioning boilers, electricity and electrical distribution systems, plumbing and piping systems, internal combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, generators, ice machines, air-conditioning units, chillers (centrifugal and screw type), cooling towers, air handling units, variable frequency drives, and building automation systems (pneumatic and direct digital control).
