Role Description

This role enables robots to make independent decisions, creating truly autonomous industrial systems. Core tasks include designing hierarchical planning algorithms, implementing safety-critical decision making, and developing adaptive behaviors for unstructured environments.

Responsibilities

Design decision-making algorithms enabling hexapods to autonomously select paths for wall-climbing inspections. Implement hierarchical planning systems for balancing locomotion, manipulation, and energy in self-replication modes. Develop fallback mechanisms for autonomy in communication-denied swarm environments. Integrate learning-based autonomy with rule-based safeguards for safety in hazardous industrial areas. Test autonomous behaviors in progressively complex scenarios, from simulation to field deployments.

Requirements

3+ years of experience in robotic autonomy or AI planning systems. Proficiency in C++/Python, planning libraries like OMPL, and behavior trees. Understanding of decision theory, POMDPs, and ethical AI in robotics. Experience with real-world deployment of autonomous agents. Master's in AI, Robotics, or related; degree not necessary with evidence of exceptional ability.

Location

We work out of GRAM's El Segundo research lab. Candidates should be prepared to relocate to Los Angeles if necessary.

Team Integration: Meet the engineers and scientists building the self-replicating future. Culture fit matters when the mission is this ambitious.

Final interviews are conducted in person at our El Segundo research lab.

Compensation

Your total compensation reflects both the significance of early-stage equity and competitive market rates:
