Summary:

The Senior Lathe CNC Programmer is a highly skilled professional responsible for the creation, optimization, and implementation of CNC programs for multi-axis Swiss-style lathes. This role requires a strong understanding of precision machining principles, tooling, and the ability to interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. The Senior Programmer will also play a key role in supporting the production team, ensuring quality standards are met, and contributing to continuous process improvement initiatives.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize CNC programs for Swiss-type lathes using CAD/CAM software (Esprit & Mastercam).
  • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), to determine optimal machining strategies.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and work holding devices to ensure efficient and accurate machining.
  • Perform article inspections, working closely with the quality team to verify part conformance to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve programming and machining issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Lead personnel, setup personnel, and machine operators, including training on setups and program adjustments.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, collaborating with engineering and production to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, setup sheets, and process documentation.
  • Promote a safety-conscious work environment and adhere to all company safety regulations and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC programming, specifically with lathes.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in CAD/CAM software, Esprit & Mastercam.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
  • Expertise in interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and machines simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of various raw materials and their machining characteristics (e.g., aluminum, stainless steel, titanium).
  • Experience with machine tool calibration and maintenance preferred.
  • Prior job shop experience, especially in a high-mix, low-volume environment, is a plus.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate's degree or certificate in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or related field (preferred).
  • Relevant technical certifications are a plus.

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Combination of office and shop environments.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with moderate to occasional loud noise levels.
  • Physical dexterity required, including the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • May involve working in confined spaces within production cells.

Annual Salary: $90 - $125K
