Job Description
Vanderlande's Controls Engineering Department is responsible for the designing, programming, commissioning, and testing of material handling systems for our customers. As a Senior Controls Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, commissioning /testing, of all types of material handling systems that integrate hardware and software components. You will be able to lead a team of other controls engineers and cross discipline contributors to deliver tangible results for the successful completion of project milestones and the system. Ensuring on time / on budget completion of project deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direction and perform configure component level devices
Provide direction and perform testing in support of PLC commissioning
Provide direction and perform area level testing in support of PLC commissioning
Document daily progress of assigned tasks
Manage punch lists (software / electrical / mechanical)
Monitor and document the progress of subcontractors
Follow all safety requirements at the jobsite
Write commissioning checklist
Write Controls Functional Specification / Description of Operations
Write, debug, and test PLC code independently
Commission and test PLC control panel
Perform quality checks on-site and provide documentation of completion and status
Preparation and review of daily and weekly progress reports
Write test plans (Integrated System, Area, Zone, Section level)
Perform integrated system level testing in support of PLC commissioning
Document integrated system level testing for PLC and SCADA commissioning (Low Volume / High Volume test)
Develop quality checks
Interface and coordination with customers, subcontractors solve issues, provide documentation of resolution
Write detailed design documents (i.e., Controls Architecture)
Provide remote customer service support for existing customers
Lead engineers in the execution of complex, large, and unique projects
Lead junior Engineers in the execution of project deliverables
Lead the onsite effort to configure, commission and test the system
Lead the onsite effort of component and overall system performance tests
Monitor internal quality of controls deliverables to ensure high first pass yield
Lead continuous improvement actions to elevate the experience of other engineers
Serve in a leadership role in all aspects of managing the engineering execution, from software design, system design, network design, commissioning, and testing with a positive result contribution on technical performance and financial results
Ensure the quality and timeliness of all Controls Project Engineering deliverables
Lead, support, promote, and improve software standardization
Serve as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for all aspects of commissioning and testing the system

Must be willing and able to travel 40% routinely, with increased amounts if projects demand

Must have the ability to properly prioritize work/activities
Ability to understand PLC programs, SCADA systems
Ability to understand and interpret Electrical Schematics
Minimum 5 years of experience in implementation of material handling systems
Advanced skills in ladder logic, Allen-Bradley Systems; Studio 5000
Advanced skills in ladder logic, Siemens Systems; TIA-Portal
Familiar with communication protocols (Ethernet IP, Modbus, etc.)
Expert level understanding of installation, programming, and providing technical support of Controls hardware and software
Possess a strong ability to solve problems and research solutions
Logical mentality, skilled in understanding and designing Engineering Science: Logic & Programming
Solid understanding of networking principles and computer hardware setup
Knowledge of project scheduling
Troubleshoot electrical based problems on conveyor systems, motors, drives, etc.
Strong understanding of Electrical controls hardware design, communication networks and 480 VAC / 120VAC / 24VDC power distribution
Strong understanding of machine and system safety standards and design considerations
Ability to quickly assess a situation and take appropriate action
Good interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
Motivator and ability to work well with team members
Ability to read structured text, write preferred
Physical Requirements: Capable of working 10 hours standing / sitting / walking / climbing stairs
Must be comfortable working in an office setting and a factory / construction environment
