Senior Engineer, Operations Systems Position Profile
This is a senior technical operations role focused on the design, implementation, and maintenance of hardware/software solutions to meet both customer and internal needs. Responsibilities include system monitoring, management, and providing elevated support for issues and requests. The role requires working in a distributed team environment to drive efficiency through creative solutions using interconnected tools. Job Duties and Responsibilities
Manage production customer and internal VMware systems, including deployment, upgrades, availability, and capacity planning.
Oversee monitoring and management systems across multiple products (SaaS, VaaS, Internal, VDI, Azure Services).
Develop and test new technologies (VMware, Microsoft, AWS, Citrix, etc.).
Diagnose and resolve elevated software and server issues.
Identify inefficiencies in business processes and develop automation, monitoring, and reporting solutions.
Conduct problem analysis, issue trending, and outage management.
Create tools and scripts for system monitoring and testing.
Assist various teams with technical requests and support.
Collaborate with vendors to resolve customer issues under support contracts.
Provide timely updates to clients and internal staff on escalated issues and outages.
Develop internal documentation and conduct training sessions.
Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Execute related tasks as required.
Qualifications
7+ years of relevant experience.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
Extensive experience in managed IT services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of Microsoft OS, patching, and applications.
Proficiency in VMware, vCloud Director, and virtualization technologies.
Project management experience (PMP not required).
Familiarity with Citrix VDI infrastructure and Microsoft Azure services.
Knowledge of SAN management and related technologies.
Service-oriented mindset with a commitment to high-quality support.
Broad technical expertise and eagerness to learn new technologies.
Understanding of networking principles, TCP/IP, SNMP, WMI.
Basic SQL knowledge and ability to write queries.
Proficiency in PowerShell for automation.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and time management abilities.
Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret complex instructions.
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Team-oriented with a collaborative attitude.
Strategic thinking and sound judgment.
Willingness to work after hours or weekends as needed.
Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Demands
Office environment with standard lighting, ventilation, and noise levels.
Work involves interpreting and applying complex data and instructions.
Minimal physical effort; mostly sedentary with occasional walking, standing, and lifting (under 10 lbs).
Moderate dexterity required for tools and equipment.
