Location: Hayden, ID or Missoula, MT License Required: Professional Engineer (PE) Overview:
We're looking for a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex projects across Idaho and Montana. This hybrid role combines technical expertise, project management, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in geotechnical analysis and reporting, mentorship experience, and a proven track record of client-facing success. Key Responsibilities: Engineering & Analysis Lead geotechnical investigations including field exploration, lab testing, analysis, and reporting. Perform and oversee designs for shallow/deep foundations, slope stability, and seismic hazard evaluations. Review and guide geotechnical work prepared by other staff. Plan and manage geotechnical lab testing programs. Leadership & Mentorship Supervise junior engineers, geologists, and field technicians. Mentor EI/EIT staff and support their development into professional engineers. Collaborate closely with the Testing Services Manager to manage project teams. Project Management Manage full project lifecycle from proposals to final reports and client delivery. Oversee project execution, scheduling, financial tracking, and client communications. Attend pre-construction meetings and ensure recommendations are clear and actionable. Maintain accurate project documentation and uphold loss prevention best practices. Professional Engagement Represent the company in technical societies and industry events. Stay up to date on engineering standards and apply best practices in daily work. Requirements: BS in Civil Engineering required; MS in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering preferred. Active PE license in ID, WA, or MT (or ability to obtain within 30 days). 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience. Strong geotechnical report writing and recommendation development skills. Deep understanding of soil mechanics and lab testing. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency in tools such as BoreDM, Settle3D, SLIDE, LPILE, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Work Environment & Travel: Hybrid role: mix of office, remote, and field work. Must be willing to travel to sites in various weather conditions. Occasional overtime, weekend, or holiday work during peak seasons (March-November).
