We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about aerospace innovation and ready to be at the forefront of hypersonic flight development. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-stakes environments, enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, and excels in rapid, iterative design and flight-test development.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers to design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems for hypersonic flight vehicles
Apply data-driven methodologies to inform design decisions and enhance overall system performance
Perform structural analysis including finite element analysis (FEA) to validate mechanical integrity under extreme flight conditions
Support the evaluation of critical technologies and provide recommendations to improve existing designs, materials, specifications, and manufacturing methods, enhancing onshore production and the manufacturability of key capabilities in support of national defense and security priorities
Participate in prototyping, testing, and validation efforts to assess design performance and identify opportunities for refinement
Clearly communicate technical findings, project updates, and innovative solutions to internal teams and external stakeholders
Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design reports, analysis summaries, and test plans; support technical reviews and flight-readiness milestones
Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and lead engineering efforts on complex design challenges
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related technical field (masters degree strongly preferred)
Minimum of 7-10+ years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing environments
Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design, structural analysis, and materials engineering for high-performance or mission-critical systems
Proficiency in industry-standard CAD platforms (e.g., SolidWorks) and simulation tools for structural/thermal analysis (e.g., ANSYS, or comparable FEA software)
Direct experience supporting the design, integration, or testing of high-speed or high-temperature aerospace platforms hypersonic or supersonic systems, is highly desirable
Proven ability to contribute to fast-paced, multi-disciplinary teams delivering rapid design iterations under tight deadlines
Excellent technical communication skills, with experience presenting engineering findings to both internal and external stakeholders
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret or Top Secret (TS) security clearance, as required by government contracts
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or applied mechanics
Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) programs or working directly with agencies such as MDA
Hands-on experience developing hardware for novel propulsion systems (e.g., scramjets, ramjets)
Prior mentorship or leadership experience guiding junior engineers or contributing to team-level technical strategy
Experience working with materials or components designed for extreme heat or speed conditions
Hands-on involvement in ground or flight-testing efforts including building test hardware, setting up measurement tools, and reviewing test data to guide design decisions.
