Job Description:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a leading provider of secure, mission-critical technologies for aerospace and defense. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team at our Oxnard, CA facility, supporting our Microelectronics business unit within the Microwave - RFMS R&D division. This role is focused on the design and development of mechanical systems for advanced RF and microwave modules used in defense applications, including radar, electronic warfare, and secure communications. You will work on ruggedized, high-reliability enclosures and assemblies for custom integrated microwave assemblies (IMAs), system-in-package (SiP) solutions, and chip-and-wire designs operating across a wide frequency range (10 MHz to 40 GHz). The work supports military-grade performance standards for thermal, vibration, and shock tolerance in harsh environments. We would love for you to be a part of our team!
Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Design & Development: Design mechanical systems and enclosures for RF/microwave components using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD).
- Thermal & Structural Analysis: Perform simulations and engineering analyses including stress, thermal, vibration, and environmental performance evaluations.
- System Integration: Collaborate with electrical, RF, systems, and packaging engineers to integrate mechanical components into complex defense systems.
- Testing & Validation: Support functional, environmental, and mechanical testing to ensure systems meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Manufacturing Support: Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM), resolve build issues, and optimize processes for production.
- Compliance & Documentation: Generate and maintain detailed engineering documentation including BOMs, test plans, and design specifications in accordance with AS9100 standards.
- Innovation & R&D: Contribute to research initiatives in support of rugged, low-SWaP (size, weight, and power) RF packaging technologies and next-generation microelectronics.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in defense, aerospace, or high-frequency electronics packaging.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools.
- Strong understanding of materials, thermal management, and mechanical integration for electronic systems.
- Familiarity with RF/microwave module design is a plus.
- Preferred Experience:
- Experience designing RF enclosures, chip-and-wire microelectronics, or high-reliability defense hardware.
- Knowledge of MIL-STD environmental testing and defense-industry standards (AS9100, ITAR, etc.).
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-disciplinary teams; excellent attention to detail; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- This is a 1st (day) shift position following a 9/80 schedule.
