JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a leadership role within the Engineering & Design team, responsible for guiding and supporting a team of Mechanical Engineers through all phases of project development—from concept design to handoff. This position ensures technical excellence, promotes best practices, and drives collaboration across engineering, design, and production teams. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, project oversight experience, and a passion for mentoring others.
ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but not limited to):
Lead and mentor a team of Mechanical Engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
Oversee the development of mechanical concepts, system-level designs, and engineering documentation.
Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards, project timelines, and customer requirements.
Facilitate collaboration between Mechanical Engineers, Designers, and cross-functional teams.
Review and approve engineering work for accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with codes and standards.
Support the Engineering & Design Manager in resource planning, workload balancing, and performance feedback.
Promote continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and documentation practices.
Lead design reviews and ensure alignment between engineering intent and downstream execution.
Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
Support the resolution of complex technical challenges during design, fabrication, and implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
7+ years of experience in mechanical design or engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior engineering role.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, sheet metal design, and structural steel fabrication.
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering talent.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments and levels.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide technical guidance and support to Mechanical Engineers.
Coordinate engineering efforts to meet project goals and deadlines.
Mentor team members and promote best practices.
Assist with team development and performance feedback.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Travel may be required.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D modeling and layout development.
Experience with FEA tools for preliminary analysis (e.g., stress, thermal).
Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM and engineering file management systems.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and project tracking tools.
Experience in a fabrication or custom manufacturing environment.
