At Raytheon's Optics Manufacturing Center (CMC), the Manufacturing Engineering team plays a critical role in sustaining our competitive edge in the design and production of complex optical components, assemblies, and systems. We are responsible for driving operational excellenceensuring high-quality product delivery that meets schedule, cost, and safety targets.

The Manufacturing Engineering team at our facility in Richardson TX seeks a highly skilled and motivated Senior Optics Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the production of advanced optical systems using state-of-the-art diamond turning and polishing technologies. Relocation benefits available.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide engineering support for diamond turning, grinding and polishing operations.
  • Develop detailed process plans that meet drawing specifications, optimize cost and schedule, and ensure quality and operator efficiency.
  • Review specifications, procedures, and engineering documentation to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Support bid and proposal efforts by estimating time and resources required for manufacturing activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis and process optimization.
  • Determine and specify equipment needs for manufacturing and testing.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing technicians on the factory floor to resolve production issues in real time.
  • Analyze product and equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead advanced technology development efforts and guide implementation into production.
  • Serve as a technical liaison for management, customers, and internal teams on high-visibility projects.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience is described as: Work history in a precision optics manufacturing environment.
  • Programming diamond turning lathes using Diffsys or similar software.
  • Experience with Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF) Process.
  • Use of Slow Tool Servo and/or Fast Tool Servo processes (manufacturing freeform surfaces).
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T.
  • Experience with optical metrology equipment, including interferometers and Luphoscan.
  • Root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, or related field.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Matlab or other data analysis software.
  • Creo or similar CAD platform.
  • CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) operation and programming.
  • Computer-Generated Holography (CGH) for optical surface measurement.
  • Conventional pitch polishing and CNC grinding/polishing of optical surfaces.
  • Process development and documentation.
  • Leading advanced technical projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours based on business needs.
