Under the direction of the Principal Safety Engineer (Staff Services) in the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), Educational Program and Technical Service Unit (EPTSU) - Publications Team, the Senior Safety Engineer (Industrial) (SSE) handles the more varied, complex, and sensitive health and safety issues in the evaluation and development of guidance documents, model programs, and other published materials regarding, but not limited to, Title 8 regulations; provision of technical assistance to Cal/OSHA staff and outside labor, management and the general public, and the publication of (both on-line and in printed form) educational materials, fact sheets, and other guidance documents.

Working Conditions

Division of Occupational Safety and Health - Enforcement Branch
Educational Program and Technical Service Unit (EPTSU)
1750 Howe Ave. Suite 430. Sacramento, CA 95825 .
The incumbent will work in a cubicle with natural and artificial lighting in an air-conditioned office multi-floor building. The incumbent is required to work extensively on the computer as necessary for email communication, research, working on audits, and other purposes. Field work may involve visiting indoor and outdoor workplaces, including health care facilities, warehouses, machine shops, agricultural fields, construction worksites and other similar locations and activities. During these outdoor activities, the incumbent may be exposed to various weather conditions. The incumbent may telework following the DIR Telework Policy and based on the operational needs of the office.
The position entails both office and field work, with occasional overnight travel. Travel throughout the State may be required. The incumbent may be required to participate in mandatory health testing, such as regular testing for the virus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), in accordance with applicable DIR policies in effect.
