Description
As a Senior Telecom Network Engineer at FOCUS Broadband, you will play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, management, and maintenance of our service provider transport network and associated services. You will help develop scalable, highly available network architectures that exceed customer expectations. This role requires a deep understanding of routing and switching, strong technical acumen, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Your work will support FOCUS Broadband's mission to deliver reliable voice, video, broadband, and transport services.
Requirements
Design and implement service provider network infrastructure, including routers, switches, access and transport equipment, and related hardware/software. Support network planning and design efforts, including IP planning, routing architecture, VLAN configuration, security strategies, and high-availability protocols. Collaborate with management, consultants, and product vendors to recommend network solutions that ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalability. Configure and document intermediate-to-complex network changes with minimal supervision. Provide intermediate-to-complex configuration, troubleshooting, and problem mitigation on all Service Provider-related services and equipment. Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Monitor network and proactively address issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Provide technical support to internal teams, customers, and vendors. Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices. Follow industry best practices in network engineering. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement network solutions and ensure interoperability with other systems and applications. Stay current with emerging telecom and network technologies and trends. Support lower-level engineering responsibilities as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Data Services. Minimum Qualifications: CCNA or JNCIA certification with at least 8 years of experience managing a service provider network. CCNP certification preferred. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., MPLS, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, EVPN). Experience with firewalls and comprehensive knowledge of network security principles and best practices. Willingness to provide off-hours support as needed. Availability for work on holidays, weekends, and with short notice. Ability to travel for training or network support. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Flexibility to swiftly pivot to evolving technical landscapes and stay updated on emerging technologies and techniques. Strong independent work ethic and ability to collaborate effectively in team settings. Excellent customer service and technical support skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to interpret and follow written, verbal, and diagrammed instructions. Availability to work maintenance windows between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and dependability are essential.
