Position Overview:

We are looking for a solutions engineer to join our team, in this role the engineer will work on scoping of new features for TrueNAS, definition of user requirements for these and technical background for them. They will also support 3rd party integration & certification projects

This is a hybrid position in our Maryville, TN office.

Base Pay Range

The base pay range of this position is $65,000 to $80,000 USD annually.

Please note that the provided range reflects the pay spectrum for positions within the same job category as the one to which this position belongs. The final offer will consider various factors, such as location, education, and prior experience, to ensure a comprehensive and fair compensation assessment.

Expected Posting Timelines

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, a maximum of 90 days.

The Day-to-Day

The essential functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

• Research proposed scope for TrueNAS, work with stakeholders to define and review user needs.
• Present to and collaborate with UX team to transition scope proposals into design
• Validate prototypes against user needs and handoff new feature requirements and knowledge to TrueNAS product validation team.
• Collaborate with the Validation team, including documenting scenarios and conditions under which new solutions should be tested.
• Research and develop proof of concepts & document how-to and best practices for potential storage solutions.
• Support internal and external customers directly on novel or larger deployments, including assisting with specific
• design, setup or operational documentation needed.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.
• Provide clear and timely status reporting for your projects.
• Protect the confidentiality of our customers as necessary.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
• Established work history with digital storage systems and their related technologies:
  • Related hardware: CPU, RAM, NICs, HBAs, and other individual system components. Server chassis, JBODs, SAS cabling, copper and fiber network cabling. Data center environments, racking, power, and cooling
  • Related software: operating systems, file systems, networking, protocols, virtualization, etc.
• Strong modern research skills including use of AI.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely, with internal and external audiences in mind
• Strong interpersonal skills and communication
• Comfortable working in pre-sales and support situations with customers
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
• Comfortable with the code management systems like Git
• Comfortable with writing basic test and automation scripts such as Bash or Python, including Vibe Coding
• Ability to document work in progress well enough for other team members to pick up your projects in the future, or
• for you to return to a project after some time has passed
• Open to occasional travel for events and customer on-site deployments
• Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift equipment up to 30 pounds
