The Design Assurance Engineer owns the design risk mitigation process, documentation, and assessment activities in support of the Polaris Product Development process (PDP). This role is responsible for ensuring that design risk is mitigated through a robust and comprehensive design process, utilizing tools to achieve all safety, quality, and customer objectives expected within PDP. This role offers a unique opportunity to reenvision the foundation of the PFMEA process and executing within Polaris.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Own the Polaris Process Failure Model & Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plan
Create and maintain comprehensive process documentation and training materials to clearly outline guidelines and expectations for end users. Provide live training, facilitation, and coaching. Mentor and develop subject matter experts throughout the organization.
Support manufacturing quality by creating thorough DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plan mesh points.
Support Quality & Advanced Manufacturing team as PFMEA & Control Plan Process Standards are maintained and integrated with business processes and IT systems
Partner with IS to ensure proper tools, software, and databases deliver value. Identify as the PFMEA and Control Plan subject matter expert.
Develop and maintain meaningful metrics to drive PDP accountability.
Support active project PFMEA auditing, Control Plan auditing, and leadership reviews.
Evaluate process failure modes and utilize PFMEA to address operations issues actively.
Partner with NPI Manufacturing to ensure effective and timely product launch.
Working closely with manufacturing NPI and site manufacturing teams as liaison between development and operation business units to support addressing systematic failure modes and resolution.
Drive additional/future continuous process improvement across the operations and quality organization.
Improve product quality launch by ensuring development inputs turn to manufacturing controls in an effective and timely manner.
Support APQP supplier quality data sharing initiatives, NPI manufacturing readiness, and launch readiness
Support Design Assurance initiatives
Support and cross-train in all Design Assurance process and assessment-related activities. Focus areas include design review based on failure mode (DRBFM), design validation plan and report (DVP&R), internal audit reporting system (IAR), hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA), design for manufacturing (DFM), and corrective action and preventive action processes (CAPA).
Lead special projects and support requests as assigned by the Design Assurance manager, Global Product Safety & Quality VP, and Engineering Chief Technical Officer.
Lead peer groups and steering teams in areas of focus to drive continuous improvement.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) required.
+5 years of experience in Industrial or Manufacturing (or similar) engineering roles. New product launch experience preferred.
Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans required.
Ability to present to multiple levels of an organization is required.
Strong people/teamwork skills; able to work well in a team environment.
Must be able to communicate effectively with internal & external cross-functional teams.
Must be a self-starter who requires minimal direction - quick learner with a high level of ambition and urgency.
Must be able to successfully work on multiple projects in parallel while prioritizing assignments accordingly - flexible when called upon.
Strong engineering and manufacturing knowledge as demonstrated by academic & practical experience. Statistical experience is a plus.
Capable of building cross-functional processes, assessment/audit/metric foundations, and applicable documentation to ensure clear expectations to drive accountability.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Located in Wyoming, MN.
Mix of office, shop, lab, production, and field support. Fast-paced environment.
Travel to other Polaris offices, plants, and dealers as needed (25%).
The starting pay range for Minnesota is $100,000 to $120,000 per year. Individual salaries and positioning within the range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. While individual pay could fall anywhere in the range based on these factors, it is not common to start at the high end or top of the range.
