Northrop Grumman Space Systems Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Systems Engineer Global Requirements Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in the Colorado Springs, CO area and Schriever Space Force Base or Huntsville, AL. Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. Essential Functions: Provide Systems Engineering leadership to ensure a disciplined approach to the definition, development, and analysis of system capabilities.
Use related systems engineering tools and documents to analyze, understand, and propose changes to systems engineering analysis, user CONOPS, system operational concepts, and system and interface requirements specifications in support of C2BMC.
Work towards future BMDS capabilities such as sensor management, tasking, cueing, and discrimination architectures.
Participate in developing, executing, and analyzing the results of various software tests in a lab environment as needed.
Coordinate engineering disciplines in resolving system-level issues.
Learn, understand, and represent the perspectives of warfighters, operators, and systems owners, ensuring they are respected throughout the engineering efforts.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in a STEM (Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Software Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Masters degree in a related discipline and 6 years of experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience.
Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
Understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
Familiarity with the application and use of systems engineering tools for requirements management and Object-Oriented requirements definition DOORS is required.
Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions.
Ability to analyze high-level needs and use a structured and logical approach to refine those needs into an integrated set of requirements that leads to a fielded product.
Ability to lead/perform portions of the work and direct the activities of other systems engineers.
Ability to work directly with multiple customer and contractor organizations is a must.
Able to write and implement engineering plans within a project.
Excellent communication skills are required, as is the ability to effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in the space defense domain including operational and technical issues associated with specific areas of the missile defense domain such as engagement management, track management, sensor management, networks, etc. is preferred.
Experience using MDNT processes and methods are desirable.
Applicant must obtain an upgrade to DoD Top Secret clearance on the start date.
