The Medallia – Voice of Customer team within The Hartford’s Enterprise Data Office is seeking Staff Data Engineer primarily responsible for configuring and managing VoC platform, Medallia. In this role, you will lead efforts to design, develop, and support scalable ETL pipelines, real-time data exports, storage solutions that power Medallia Voice of Customer (VoC) analytics. You will work across multiple medium- and large-scale initiatives to integrate survey data, streamline ingestion from Medallia Experience Cloud, and enable actionable insights through Snowflake, web applications, and real-time dashboards. You will support our software developers, data architects, analysts and data scientists on vital initiatives and ensure optimal data delivery architecture. You will lead the design of vital components and suggest/implement new frameworks and tools based on industry and technological trends and advances. You will also collaborate with process owners to review, interpret, and translate business requirements into scalable data solutions that support Medallia Voice of Customer (VoC) analytics. This includes developing systems aligned with user needs, ensuring code quality through robust documentation, adherence to best practices, and conducting thorough code reviews. Working in our collaborative environment, you will further develop your skills while also acting as a mentor and technical guide to other data engineers. This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Job responsibilities: Demonstrate self-initiation and ability to learn new technology stacks as per the defined architecture Utilize modern cloud ETL tools and Big Data Platforms like Hadoop, etc. to develop complex data assets that support organizational decision making via prototyping, data discovery, profiling, etc… Prototype high impact innovations, catering to changing business needs, by leveraging new technologies (AWS – Cloud and Big Data) Act as a Subject Matter expert on existing data assets through root cause analysis and resolution of any business/technical questions Support the development of training materials and perform end-user training to ensure a high degree of customer engagement Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers, promoting best practices in code quality, documentation, and system design Support documentation, metadata, and data visualization of the assets Participating in the development of the implementation plan as a subject matter expert Coordinate activities with cross-functional IT unit stakeholders (e.g., database, operations, telecommunications, technical support, business etc.) Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective solution for the systems design Review sprint plan, disaster recovery plans, evaluate system readiness and prepare periodic activity and progress reports for the team Qualifications Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Data Engineering experience. Extensive experience in programming like JavaScript, Python and PySpark framework. Familiar with Object Oriented Design patterns. Leverage modern cloud and big data technologies (e.g., AWS, Hadoop) to prototype high-impact solutions aligned with evolving business needs. Experience in XML data file processing and generation. Hands-on experience on DevOps tools and practices for Continuous Integration and Deployment like GitHub, Jenkins etc. Managing data pipelines that ingest and transform survey feedback from VoC platform into Snowflake for downstream analytics. Support for multiple unique survey programs with daily monitoring and maintenance. Understanding of Net Promoter Score (NPS), OSAT, and other customer satisfaction metrics. Familiarity with Medallia’s alert system and close loop performance metrics. Hands-on experience with Medallia APIs for customer experience reporting and integration with platforms like Salesforce and internal CRMs. Understanding of Medallia dashboard configuration and embedding analytics into internal web tools. Knowledge and experience of working on advanced SQL Queries and Unix scripting Ability to design, implement, and oversee ETL processes Experience working on a Scrum team or other Agile delivery methodology Address knowledge silos and cross-skill teams. Excellent Troubleshooting Skills and performance tuning of ETL processes Good to have Experience working on Snowflake data warehouse is nice to have. Working knowledge of modeling techniques up to third normal form, and experience in determining when to use them based on actual customer requirements. Experience with Voice of Customer tools or similar SaaS platform. Experience with real-time data exports from Medallia, including configuration of export jobs and encryption workflows. Familiarity with Medallia Digital Experience is a strong plus — including capabilities like session replay, digital behavior analytics, and integration with web and mobile feedback channels. Any AWS Cloud certification is a plus Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
