Key responsibilities Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (software, electrical, and systems engineers) to define project requirements, develop specifications, and integrate hardware and software components seamlessly. Design, develop, and refine robotic prototypes and components, including end-effectors, motion systems, and structural elements. The engineer will leverage expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, ProEngineer) and material science. Conduct thorough testing, analysis, and simulation of robotic systems to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and safety in real-world applications. Develop and implement solutions for thermal management to prevent overheating and ensure efficient operation of robotic systems under demanding conditions. Support the installation, calibration, and maintenance of robotic systems in various environments, including manufacturing facilities and research laboratories. Troubleshoot and debug mechanical issues and malfunctions. The engineer will identify root causes and implement effective solutions to maintain system uptime and performance. Contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of robotic systems by researching new technologies, materials, and methodologies. Create and maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, assembly instructions, maintenance guidelines, and test reports.
Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. A Master's degree is preferred, particularly for roles involving research and development or advanced design. A strong understanding of mechanical design principles, kinematics, dynamics, and control systems is required. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, ProEngineer) and experience with simulation tools is required. Basic programming knowledge in languages such as C++ and Python is a plus, enabling effective collaboration and troubleshooting. Familiarity with various manufacturing processes for both prototyping and production is required. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a strong attention to detail is required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams is required. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving is required. Familiarity with relevant industry standards and safety protocols for robotic systems is required.
Desired skills and experience Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications in robotics. Experience with specific robotic systems or platforms (e.g., industrial robotic arms, mobile robots). Hands-on experience with hardware assembly, wiring, and soldering.
