About the Job Job Title: Structural Engineer Location: A vibrant industrial hub in the Northeast Department: Engineering Reports To: Engineering Management Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site | Contract to Hire Position Overview A leading manufacturer specializing in custom modular structures, shipping container-based solutions, and ballistic metal fabrication for defense, disaster relief, and commercial markets is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer. This role focuses on the design and analysis of prefabricated metal enclosures and steel structures, including military training enclosures, medical facilities, and energy storage units. The Structural Engineer will perform structural calculations, analyze steel weldments, design connections, and ensure compliance with industry standards, collaborating closely with engineering and production teams in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment. Key ResponsibilitiesStructural Design & Analysis Perform structural steel analysis and design to meet gravity, wind, and seismic building code standards for modular structures.
Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) of weldment structures using advanced simulation software.
Complete connection design calculations for mechanical fasteners, rivets, screws, bolts, and welds.
Ensure designs comply with building codes, including ASCE 7-16, IBC 2018, AISC 360, and AISC 341 Seismic Provisions.
Design & Manufacturing Support Review designs for manufacturability, collaborating with mechanical detailers and drafters to ensure accuracy.
Produce detailed design calculation packages for customer submission.
Review PDFs and fabrication drawings to ensure precision before release to production.
Collaboration & Communication Engage with customers regularly to discuss and coordinate design specifications.
Work closely with engineering and design teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Manage multiple projects, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering.
5–10 years of experience in steel structure design, preferably in modular or prefabricated systems.
Strong knowledge of mechanical weldments, fastening systems, tolerances, and clearances.
Experience with manufacturing and fabrication drawing production.
Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., RISA 3D), AutoCAD, Adobe, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to provide a portfolio showcasing steel calculations and structural analysis.
Expertise in building codes: ASCE 7-16, IBC 2018, AISC 360, AISC 341 Seismic Provisions.
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in connection design and structural component integration.
Familiarity with modular structures or prefabricated enclosures for defense or commercial applications.
