Our client, a growing manufacturer with a commitment to operational excellence, is seeking a Supply Chain Industrial Engineer to join their team in a direct hire capacity.
*This role can be based in Holland or Grand Rapids. Hybrid position- 3 days a week onsite, 2 from home.
This role offers the opportunity to lead logistics planning and optimization efforts for new and existing projects, with a focus on lean principles, cost efficiency, and scalable solutions. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in logistics design, shop floor planning, and supply chain process improvement-especially within the automotive or manufacturing sectors. As part of a collaborative team, the Supply Chain Specialist will play a key role in shaping the flow of materials across the plant network, supporting both current operations and greenfield projects. This is a high-impact role with visibility across operations, engineering, and supplier management.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement logistics strategies for new projects, including material flow, line feeding, packaging, and spatial planning. Calculate total logistics costs across transportation, packaging, warehousing, and inventory for project proposals. Design and update shop floor layouts to support lean and efficient operations. Support the launch of new projects and facilities with integrated logistics and supply chain planning. Drive process improvement initiatives by identifying waste and inefficiencies using Value Stream Mapping and lean tools. Standardize and optimize supply chain elements such as containers, racks, internal vehicles, and labeling systems. Facilitate the implementation of lean material handling systems (e.g., Kanban, AVs, kitting, and supermarkets). Prepare data for negotiations with third-party logistics providers, including cost modeling and contract term tracking. Create customized packaging and container solutions aligned with plant needs. Apply global best practices across regional operations to ensure consistency and efficiency.
Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience in supply chain planning or logistics, ideally in a manufacturing or automotive environment. Experience supporting new product or plant launches, with involvement in logistics cost analysis and material flow setup. Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret and act on complex data sets. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and presentations. Working knowledge of supply chain planning tools and logistics optimization software. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Willingness to travel domestically to support projects and plant operations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in automotive manufacturing environments. Knowledge of lean manufacturing systems and logistics automation. Familiarity with global logistics standards and supplier negotiation processes. Experience with internal logistics equipment and automated vehicle (AV) solutions.
