Principal Software Engineer Our Platform Intelligence team is building Watchtower, a centralized operational hub built on Spotify Backstage that transforms how incident response and error correction work at massive scale. As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll architect and build the operational intelligence platform that thousands of engineers rely on during their most critical moments. Using React, TypeScript, Redis, PostgreSQL, and cutting edge AI, you'll create event driven systems that blend automation with human judgment to keep a Fortune 500 company running smoothly when things go wrong.

What you'll do:
Design and build the next generation of incident management, from automated workflow orchestration to AI powered post incident analysis
Create event driven systems that orchestrate incident response in real time, including live chat integration, intelligent stakeholder routing, and dependency health monitoring
Build the eventing backbone that connects disparate systems, enabling rapid response when critical failures occur
Develop AI agents that learn from every incident to prevent future failures, generate instant incident summaries, and suggest corrective actions based on historical patterns
Write production code alongside the team you lead while making architectural decisions that impact thousands of engineers
Design real time streaming systems that process operational data with low latency
Create open source ready components while leveraging the best of existing solutions
Mentor engineers while staying deep in the technical implementation
What you'll bring:
Deep experience across the full stack with demonstrated expertise in distributed systems
Strong background building real time, event driven architectures at scale
Track record of building high reliability platforms with streaming technologies
Hands on experience with modern TypeScript/React applications
Expertise in data systems (PostgreSQL, Redis) and real time processing patterns
Experience integrating AI/ML systems into production environments
History of leading technical initiatives that fundamentally changed how teams operate
Passion for operational excellence as a technical challenge worth solving, not a checkbox to tick
