Position: R&D Workstation Performance Engineer We are seeking a talented Performance Design Engineer with a minimum of 4 years of experience, specializing in computer system (PC or Server) performance design optimization and leadership. The candidate must have detailed knowledge of current PC / Server x86 hardware architectures and have sufficient software/firmware skills to analyze and debug system performance issues. This is an execution focused, hands-on position, with responsibility for measuring and reporting system performance, collaborating with a cross-functional team including Architecture Planning, Technical Marketing, Platform Development and System Management. This position is based in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Key Responsibilities
Understand the architectures of our Z workstation solutions from a performance and customer experience perspective. This includes currently shipping platforms, products in development, and tracking future product architectures. Collaborate with cross-functional R&D organization and technical architects to ensure HP solutions deliver leadership performance and meet customer performance experience objectives. Innovate to identify opportunities to maximize system performance, improve the customer experience and differentiate HP workstation offerings. Using standard and proprietary benchmarks (such as consortia, application based and ISV developed), as well as leading applications used by customers - measure, analyze, and report on the performance of workstations solutions in all stages of development. Measure, analyze, compare, and report on the performance of competitive workstation solutions. Provide technical support for performance issues reported by our customers by working through our support & quality organization and, if asked, directly with customers. Trouble shoot performance issues using both hardware and software skills. Develop regression tests to identify problems in advance. Create and execute performance test plans aligned with program objectives and release criteria. Learn how to install, configure, and run leading applications used by our customers to either reproduce problems, or, analyze workload mix to provide feedback for future technical planning. Define & track performance metrics for future data-driven decision making. Partner with marketing to provide performance data needed for product marketing launch, messaging, & claims. Qualifications A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or significant equivalent experience. Minimum 4 years of system Performance engineering experience working directly with leading edge x86 (PC / Server HW) architectures. In depth knowledge of at least one significant performance benchmark such as Cinebench, SPECcpu, SPECworkstation, Arnold Render, Geekbench, Autodesk, Passmark etc. Proven ability to work effectively and lead in a cross-functional environment. Proven ability to productively work with customers and partners. Experience managing complex technical issues and driving them to resolution. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. A love of technology and an insatiable curiosity to know how things work. Not afraid to take "ownership" of problems (runs to problems). An optimistic "can-do until proven otherwise" attitude. The capacity to anticipate and plan mitigations for potential problems and risks. A desire to be excellent in everything - but the ability to prioritize and make trade-offs. The pay range for this role is $115,850 to $178,400 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
