Position Summary:

A career-minded Water/Wastewater Hydraulic Modeler, looking toward advancement, is needed to join a fast-growing water/wastewater consultant engineering practice. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading engineering tasks and projects in the water/wastewater field, utilizing a strong working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards, and processes. Responsibilities include managing multiple projects, maintaining and updating project schedules, developing and analyzing critical model elements, and coordinating the efforts of a modeling team to meet project requirements and incorporate stakeholder feedback.

This role is part of an established team of engineers working on engaging sanitary sewer collection system and potable water distribution system hydraulic modeling projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The ideal candidate will deliver high-quality engineering evaluation and design services efficiently, supporting team objectives and ensuring customer satisfaction on all projects—delivered on schedule and within budget.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Support the overall Project Manager by managing hydraulic modeling assignments, including developing scope and hours estimates.
Provide project design status updates to the Project Manager.
Complete hydraulic modeling projects using advanced technical knowledge, client specifications, and modeling/GIS software.
Create, update, and calibrate hydraulic models.
Execute tasks related to master planning and modeling of water, wastewater, and stormwater conveyance systems.
Assess collection/distribution system performance deficiencies, anticipate future issues, and develop planning and design solutions.
Prepare calculations, hydraulic models, and technical deliverables for utility conveyance and infrastructure projects.
Track budgets associated with modeling tasks.
Execute quality control and assurance plans according to the project management plan (PMP).
Review technical study, planning, and design documents for quality and accuracy.
Delegate project tasks to team members and provide mentorship.
Provide consultative support to clients through regular meetings, progress updates, and tailored engineering solutions.
Collaborate with sub-consultants and internal teams across disciplines.
Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
Conduct alternative analyses, evaluate impacts, and finalize client reports.
Plan, schedule, and manage detailed phases of engineering work for moderate-scope projects.
Perform or verify design computations.
Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Coordinate internal team efforts to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
Provide technical oversight and support to design engineers within the department.

Required Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET-accredited program
8 to 10+ years of relevant experience
Proficiency in hydraulic modeling, transient analyses, data management, and related software packages (e.g., InfoWorks, WaterGEMS, XPSWMM, PCSWMM, KY Pipe, EPA-SWMM, etc.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
Familiarity with hydraulic design, sewer rehabilitation, water and sewer design, engineering economics, and report writing

Preferred Experience:

Experience working with local clients at the county and state levels
Professional Engineer (PE) license

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in a general office environment (approximately 95% of the time). The role is mostly sedentary, with occasional standing and walking. Office conditions include adequate lighting and temperature, with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or hazardous elements. Field work may occasionally be required in varying weather conditions (hot/cold, wet/humid, or dry/arid). Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be necessary.

MUST HAVE:

Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET-accredited program
