Salary Range: $125,000 - $145,000 (Adjusted for Boston market rates and cost of living)
Reporting To: Senior Engineering Leadership
Our client, a leader in structural preservation, is expanding its specialized engineering team in the Boston metropolitan area and needs a Senior Structural Engineer to inspect, diagnose, and repair complex parking structures and infrastructure throughout Greater Boston and New England.
You'll use cutting-edge inspection technology (like smart glasses for live technical guidance, GPR, and imaging tools) to lead structural assessments primarily within the Boston area, focusing on the region's unique mix of historic structures, modern developments, and challenging urban environments.
This role combines office-based engineering work with regular field inspections throughout the Boston metropolitan area. The Senior Structural Engineer will focus on high-priority projects within Massachusetts and New England, performing on-site inspections, diagnosing concrete and structural issues, and recommending long-term repair or preservation strategies for Boston's unique challenges including freeze-thaw cycles, aging infrastructure, and seismic considerations.
Our client is growing rapidly in the Boston market and needs someone who understands local building codes, Massachusetts structural requirements, and the specific challenges posed by New England's climate, historic preservation requirements, and urban density.
If you're a licensed PE who enjoys combining technical expertise with hands-on field work in one of America's most historic and technically demanding markets—let's talk.
You're a Fit If You're:
Adaptable — you work effectively in both modern facilities and historic Boston buildings
Local market focused — you understand Boston's unique structural, regulatory, and environmental challenges
A team player — you collaborate effectively with local teams, historic preservation specialists, and municipal authorities
A clear communicator — you translate technical knowledge for diverse stakeholders including historic commissions

Utilize state-of-the-art technologies and non-destructive testing methods (NDE) to conduct comprehensive structural assessments across New England markets
Serve as a technical expert for high-priority Boston-area accounts
Address Boston-specific structural challenges including harsh winter conditions, salt corrosion from de-icing, aging infrastructure, and seismic retrofit requirements
Diagnose complex structural issues and develop engineering solutions compliant with Massachusetts Building Code and Boston-specific regulations
Navigate historic preservation requirements and work with Boston Landmarks Commission when applicable
Create detailed engineering reports that account for New England's freeze-thaw cycles and urban environmental factors
Collect data via non-destructive testing methods (e.g., ground-penetrating radar, corrosion mapping)
Draft assessment reports and repair solutions, collaborating with local and regional design teams

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Related Field (Master's preferred)
PE License (Massachusetts, or ability to obtain Massachusetts licensure quickly)
7+ years in structural engineering, ideally with concrete/material science focus
Understanding of Massachusetts Building Code and Boston municipal requirements
